Manteo Real Estate

Located on Roanoke Island, south of Nags Head, and covering an area of about 1.8 square miles, Manteo is the county seat for Dare County. The town was incorporated in 1899, and named for a Croatan chief who helped the first English colonists. Many Manteo residents have deep roots in this former fishing village. There are quaint shops, a wide variety of restaurants, a boardwalk along the waterfront, an art museum, a maritime museum and a small lighthouse museum all located in an old-fashioned down-town area where everything is walkable. Festival Park offers plays and concerts in an outdoor theater in addition to a museum that allows visitors to walk through a reconstructed Native American village and to climb aboard an early sailing ship. Manteo also is the location for the Dare County Airport, the North Carolina Aquarium, Elizabethan Gardens, and the outdoor theater featuring “The Lost Colony.”
