Southern Shores Real Estate
Southern Shores, just south of Duck, is another coastal town in the Outer Banks. Here one can find many homes in a delightful setting. Southern Shores is appealing to vacation home buyers, people searching for second homes, or for year-round living. It offers “the dunes” which has more of a beachy feel, and “the woods” which is an area oftentimes missed by the weekly renters, as it’s tucked away and quieter than the beach side. The woods offer waterfront settings on the canals and on the sound. Buying Southern Shores property lets you enjoy many of the same exciting benefits as residents living in Duck, thanks to its close proximity. Easy beach access, lively activities, recreations, dinning and shopping are all within walking distance.
Kitty Hawk Real Estate
Kitty Hawk is known for its convenient location to the bridge and easy beach access. It is where The Wright Brothers developed the first flying machine. Today it’s where residents and visitors enjoy a relaxed coastal setting. With access to great beaches, quiet subdivisions, tranquil parks, a golf course, and more, Kitty Hawk is a definite place to consider. Search Kitty Hawk homes for both rental investment and year-round properties in this famous destination.
Kill Devil Hills Real Estate
Bound by Kitty Hawk to its north and Nags Head to its south, Kill Devil Hills consists of 5.5 square miles. Like its neighbors, it is also an ocean-to-sound community. Established in 1953, Kill Devil Hills is the oldest of the Outer Banks towns. Kill Devil Hills is also home to one of the areas’ most popular attractions, the Wright Brothers National Memorial. You’ll also find Avalon fishing pier in Kill Devil Hills. Today, Kill Devil Hills is the most densely populated of the Outer Banks towns and is home to 6,800 year-round residents. With thousands of rental homes, and many restaurants, activities, and shopping areas, it is also a popular vacation spot.
Nags Head Real Estate
Just to the south of Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head is predominately made up of single family cottages and a handful of small motels. Nags Head consists of 6.5 square miles. You’ll find two of the Outer Banks fishing piers in Nags Head, as well as restaurants, shopping, and the Outer Banks Hospital. Nags Head is also home to Jockey’s Ridge State Park, a must-see on the Outer Banks. Jockey’s Ridge is the tallest natural sand dune system in the Eastern United States. Nags Head was incorporated in 1961 and is home to 2,800 year-round residents today.
Manteo Real Estate
Located on Roanoke Island, south of Nags Head, and covering an area of about 1.8 square miles, Manteo is the county seat for Dare County. The town was incorporated in 1899, and named for a Croatan chief who helped the first English colonists. Many Manteo residents have deep roots in this former fishing village. There are quaint shops, a wide variety of restaurants, a boardwalk along the waterfront, an art museum, a maritime museum and a small lighthouse museum all located in an old-fashioned down-town area where everything is walkable. Festival Park offers plays and concerts in an outdoor theater in addition to a museum that allows visitors to walk through a reconstructed Native American village and to climb aboard an early sailing ship. Manteo also is the location for the Dare County Airport, the North Carolina Aquarium, Elizabethan Gardens, and the outdoor theater featuring “The Lost Colony.”
